Job Summary

POSITION PROFILE : (Basic Purpose of Position)

The Field Application Service Specialist is responsible for supporting internal and external customers in order to provide the product and technical support in terms of operations.

He / She also serves as a lead to coordinate with vendors and global internal stakeholders to resolve issues and develop solutions.

This role will focus on downstream / upstream process development and seminar with Avantor products.


Coordinate and support regional application-specific field technical development for lab or biopharmaceutical projects specifically in the areas of chromatography, virus inactivation, filtration and formulations process.

Assist customers with product queries and applications troubleshooting including assisting with product selection decisions.

Efficient and effective follow up of customer requests for information. Responsible for presenting and delivering product training to internal and external customers.

Understands Avantor’s product offering and articulates a compelling technical rationale for the use of Avantor products used in Bioprocess manufacturing.

Understands the value drivers and technical requirements for customers. To preserve and establish good relationship with internal stakeholders and provide assistance in any product and technical queries.

Support customers with technical expertise to qualify Avantor products during early project stages. Keep abreast with latest regulatory and compliance within the lab and pharma industry.

Participate in the Company’s cross-functional organizational task force(s) if need be. Travels to and works at customer's site and leads projects to enhance the performance of Avantor’s products.

Any other relevant tasks assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education / Training, Experience and Certifications)

BS or MS degree in Biochemistry, Biology or related disciplines.

MS is preferred in similar fields or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.)

  • 5 years working experience in the purification team of biopharmaceutical industry, scientific research institute, academic labs or related organizations.
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES & COMPETENCIES (Those necessary to achieve conformity of products and services)


  • Demonstrated ability to utilize the equipment for purification and analysis.
  • Strong technical process knowledge in protein purification, analysis and should be able to handle for FPLC, HPLC, etc.
  • More than 5 year work experience in pharmaceuticals / biotech / life science space, downstream process development, manufacturing and process validation.
  • Experience working on development projects in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology fields and should be able to establish purification process development or optimization using DOE (Design of Experiment) and others.

  • Should be able to discuss with customer’s organization for Test.
  • Flexible in approach and creative in finding solutions to problems.
  • Shares customer data with people across the business to help them better understand their customers.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills with others.
  • Strong competency in Microsoft Office, specifically PowerPoint.
  • Word and Excel; excellent knowledge and execution in Excel.
  • Fluent in oral and written English, preferably 1 or 2 more languages.
