Essential Duties and Responsibilities :

  • Participates in the project planning exercise, preparation of feasibility studies and definition of project requirements.
  • Participates in the set-up of project teams, identification of internal and external resources, and the preparation of team member briefs and contracts.

  • Manages and contributes to the preparation of conceptual design for facilities, utilities and process equipment. Evaluates technical alternates, proposes and recommends solutions.
  • Coordinates the input of Operational & Quality Assurance personnel.

  • Preparation of cost estimates, project schedules and back-up documentation for project costing in line with division business needs.
  • Provides direction to the design-team, and coordinates and oversees design development and bid document preparation. Uses sound engineering judgment in making cost effective design decisions or seeking appropriate specialist advice, to meet defined requirements, user needs and Baxter standards.
  • Owns capital management system in collaboration with regional finance business partner. Manage the Capital approval drumbeat.
  • Ensure Cashflow forecast accuracy + / -5%.

  • Control, manage and track Capital spending for the assigned projects. Challenging and creative spending of assigned project capital.
  • Provides advice on the details, terms and award of medium sized construction and equipment contracts. Manages the project cost control process, the administration of contracts, and approval of invoice payments.
  • Executes capital assets procurement with the support of local PSM and local facilities purchasing representatives, supervises facility construction and installation in terms of quality, schedule and appropriateness of technological solutions.
  • Advises on appropriate resources during the execution phase.

  • Oversees and coordinates the commissioning and start-up of facilities and equipment, and acts as a focal point for the trouble shooting for latent performance problems on completed projects.
  • Coordinates the preparation of operating and maintenance manuals.

    Qualifications :

  • Must be technically competent in three or more construction and engineering disciplines, and able to coordinate and manage a diverse team of specialists, and should be recognized by customers as an "expert" in one or more specific engineering disciplines.
  • Strong business acumen within an operations environment (e.g. capital planning, cost drivers, value improvement opportunities, etc.
  • and a polished business savvy professional with the ability to influence others and drive results and analyze complex data with the understanding of trade-

    offs between different business objectives, present recommendations, and implement solutions.

  • Must be a team builder, trained and experienced in the establishment and guidance of multi-disciplinary teams on medium complexity projects.
  • Must be able to keep the project process on-track whilst providing detailed direction to individual engineering disciplines.

  • Must be capable of providing solid leadership in keeping with business objectives and principles. Must have the ability to translate the goals of management into project action plans.
  • Must have a proven track record as a project manager on construction projects in a manufacturing and distribution environment, with experience of construction, electrical and mechanical services.
  • Must be objectively focused, capable of independent thought, adaptable, ready to respond and react to real-time situations with realistic and viable technical, organizational and administrative solutions.
  • Must be a capable written and verbal communicator, and competent presenter.
  • Must be a consistent self-starter, capable of initiating major efforts on his / her own. Must be able to recognize and become familiar with the essential parameters of a process for integration into a project framework.
  • Must be abreast of current industry trends, standards, technologies and construction techniques to execute the design, construction and installation of facilities, utilities and engineering services and equipment in an appropriate and innovative manner.
  • Must understand the complexity of working in varied international and domestic locations, and must be able to work successfully in culturally and operationally diverse situations.
  • Experience integrating projects into larger-scale corporate project initiatives and providing status updates to key stakeholders
  • Ability to effectively operate within, and facilitate, cross-functional teams, with minimal guidance.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Must be able to travel, as required, to project site locations and to work flexible hours, including overtime, nights, weekends and during planned maintenance outages onsite work, as needed to support project activities.
