The newly created Asia Pacific Center of Excellence in Translational Science (AP CoE-TS) within Janssen Asia Pacific R&D organization has a focus on advancing translational medical scientific innovation to accelerate the development and delivery of innovative solutions to patients in China, in region and around world.

The center covers translational clinical and research projects in multiple diseases areas initiated from both global and regional with a geographic scope to all of Asia Pacific.

Currently, the center is recruiting a Strategy Execution role for its Strategic Planning Office, reporting to Head of Strategic Planning Office.

Job Summary :

This Manager within Strategic Planning Office under AP CoE TS (Asia Pacific Center of Excellence in Translational Science) will be responsible for converting critical opportunities into strategic programs of varying complexity and scope to drive the organizational transformation and key values delivery.

With the supervision of Head of SPO, this person will partner with AP CoE leadership team and key stakeholders in the form of opportunity analysis, program management, and thought partnership.

This person will also work with leadership team to deliver mid-to-long term organizational strategies and lead the execution processes.

For that purpose, this person will work with Head of Strategic Planning Office to help Head of AP CoE prepare strategy review and business update to relevant meetings and events.

By bringing strong influencing skill, facilitation and effective project management practices, this person will help ensure the success of a broad variety of strategic initiatives and conversion of critical opportunities into real actions and platforms in alignment of supported TA priorities.

Typical work includes developing insights, driving organizational transformation, building new capabilities, increasing business efficiency efforts, and re-designing complex processes, etc.

To excel in the job, the colleague will need to have a demonstrated understanding of R&D activities and its business relevance.

He / She will need to be highly proactive, work collaboratively with other groups, have strong attention to detail along with excellent written, verbal and listening skills, presentation skills, teaming, facilitation, mental agility, influencing and relationship building skills.

Responsibilities :

The Manager leverages scientific expertise & business analysis, change management, processes improvement, and continuous improvement methodologies, measurement & tools to analyze issues and drive solutions for the organization.

He / She obtains deep understanding of translational science remits, collates and prioritizes needs / opportunities and develops effective strategic solutions / platforms in alignment of supported global TA strategic priorities (which include operation model design, business analytics to enable informed decisions, strategy and governance, resolving conflict across functions, managing implementation, overseeing change management on organizational transformations) and becomes a key thought partner with leadership team and TAs.

He / She needs to work with Head of Strategic Planning Office to develop resources & portfolio planning and prioritization by coordinating with supported TAs across multiple diseases.

He / She will help develop strategies and best practices for building up regional landscape knowledge and intelligence for diseases of interest, KOLs, research collaborators, vendors, etc.

With the supervision of Head of Strategic Planning Office, this person needs to initiate talks with leaders and other functions to influence and impact to enhance synergies across the R&D organization, and meantime is able to dive into front-line activities to engage in effective talks from scientists and other colleagues to ensure resources prioritization aligned with supported TA strategies.


  • Advanced degree in medical or life sciences is required and MBA degree preferred
  • 5-8 years of progressive industry experience (e.g. R&D, Marketing, Management, etc.) is required
  • Operational consulting experience, either internally or at a large external consulting firm is preferred
  • Strong ability to assimilate complex science and data quickly
  • Demonstrated strength business analysis and strategic thinking
  • Extensive experience with aligning stakeholders, facilitating conflict, and communicating information in a way that enables leaders to have transparency on the underlying issues and potential solutions in varying settings including workshops, small group sessions or one-on-one meetings.
  • Able to interact, partner and provide thought leadership for key stakeholders with comfort and ease.
  • Strong business sense
  • Technical Skills Requirements :

  • Scientific experience in product lifecycle management
  • Experience with operations consulting methodologies and frameworks including change management methodologies
  • Experience with business process creation or re-engineering and change management
  • Fluent in Mandarin and English
  • Excellent oral and written communications capabilities and presentation and facilitation skills
  • Must be able to manage matrix teams across multiple functions and have a working knowledge of each function
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing capabilities
