Publishing Support Manager

The role of the Publishing Support Manager is to support Publishing with the maintenance, development and acquisition of high quality Science, Technical and Medical journals content (STM, STMJ).

The role will contribute to the main STMJ initiatives including content growth, content innovation, open access publishing, society publishing, peer review improvements and overall Elsevier strategy to combine content with technology.

The Publishing Support Manager will facilitate the running of the STM Journals portfolios and their publishing activities, by providing a range of support to the portfolios and the publishers including (but not limited to) organization of board meetings with the external editors and report preperation to aid operational and strategic decision making.

Key Result Areas :

Coordination of Editorial Meetings

  • Responsible for the complete logistical organization of Society / Editorial Board Meetings at various locations dependent upon Publishing / Journal needs;
  • Organise and book travel for editors if required and process editor's expense claims

    Providing Journal, portfolio, editor and publisher support

  • Tasks as required for the smooth running of the journals in a publisher’s portfolio. Examples include but are not limited to raising any forms of Purchase Order or invoices to external suppliers for work on portfolio;
  • creating Certificates or arranging gifts for Authors, Reviewers or Editors; generating communications to or on behalf of Editor;
  • setting promotional access on Society or Editor Choice content; prepare, edit and format internal forms and documents for new journal launches, journal changes and journal transfers;
  • website maintenance; Abstracting & Indexing applications.


  • Communicate with internal and external contacts about queries and ongoing activities; Coordinate activities with internal and external contacts;
  • Track and follow up as required to meet schedules; Regularly update publishers on status of activities

    Research and Analysis

    Gather data, information and facts by using existing reports (e.g. circulation, usage, citation reports, etc.) or build reports and analyses for publisher to use in proposals, reports, editorial appointments and meetings

  • Contribution to Best Practices and System Development Contribute to best practice ideas, operational procedures and workflow efficiency;
  • Take up various additional tasks as may be required from time to time to support portfolio objectives and publishing activities including work on special projects;
  • Contribute to testing and development of internal systems; Act as a champion for one or more systems

    Local office Support

    Order office supplies; Assist in local office logistics for visitors if and when needed
