  • leading environmental efforts. Join Apple, and help us leave the world better than we found it. In this highly visible role, our Mechanical Process Development Engineers (Supplier Base Engineer / SBE;
  • Manufacturing Process Engineer / MPE) are responsible for the development and implementation of a wide range of high precision mechanical fabrication processes in a high volume environment for Apple Products.

    This team is responsible for cover glass (enclosures) component of portables and desktop products.

    Key Qualifications

  • Requires 5+ experience supporting new product launches from manufacturing operations, tooling engineering or product development perspective.
  • Experience with a wide variety of manufacturing processing techniques (such as forming / shaping, decoration, surface treatments and coatings) on wide ranging materials (such as glass, ceramic, brittle materials, metals, plastics) applicable to consumer electronic products is required.
  • Experience with glass processing is a plus.

  • Experience developing metrology tools and implementing them in MP is preferred. Experience with cosmetic inspection tools / systems is a plus.
  • Expertise in hands-on data analysis required. Expertise in analysis tools such as Excel, JMP, Alteryx, Tableau are a plus.
  • Knowledge of database concepts is a plus.

  • Knowledge of / experience with cosmetic appearance quantification and specification preferred.
  • Prefer a solid understanding of DOE, GD&T and SPC.
  • Ability to work with cross-functional teams and forge agreements.
  • Ability to function independently, often in unstructured environment, to meet project goals under challenging schedules.
  • Engineering management or program management experience is considered a plus.
  • Description

    You will utilize your Engineering background in the following areas : Process Development : Planning, proposing, and leading experiments to produce timely and accurate analyses used to drive design, development, and supply chain decisions.

    Assessing the suitability of a fabrication technology for a given part design. Planning validation exercises to demonstrate initial feasibility as well as manufacturing capability.

    Analyzing results of validation exercises and provide technical recommendations.Reviewing progress of development activities at supplier locations and serve as point of escalation for critical process related issues.

    Metrology Development : Design and develop metrology tools for process control and cosmetic inspection with suppliers. Identify suppliers for metrology needs.

    Implement metrology in in MP scale in collaboration with cross-functional teams.Drive continuous improvement of existing metrology tools.

    Analyze metrology tool data (including large volume / big data) to monitor tool performance in MP. New Product Introduction : Acts as lead engineer to drive process development and capability assessment activities, reviewing part design documentation to ensure alignment with process capability.

    Assigns specific tasks and work with Apple suppliers to support process development and / or data gathering activities. Set clear goals for results and provide timely reviews of performance throughout program.

    Establish validation procedures to determine acceptance of tooling into development builds as well as mass production.Collect, store, process, and analyze large volumes of data from various sources in production to monitor process tool and metrology tool performance.

    Supplier Execution : Review supplier tool design, process flow, equipment selection, DFM, and DOE proposals. Identify shortfalls and corrective actions to ensure design compliance.

    Work with supplier engineering teams to map out process development exercises, secure resources, and commit to schedules in line with program goals Assess supplier readiness to support build events and production ramp.

    Identify potential execution issues and provide recommendations to mitigate risk.


    Bachelors degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineer, Industrial Engineering or similar required. Advanced degree preferred.

    Additional Requirements

    Required to travel to supplier and contract manufacturer sites globally on periodic basis to accomplish project goals. Amount of travel depends on project needs.
