The general purpose of this position is to assume the responsibilities as a Chemist / Sr. Chemist in Technical Service department for Automotive, Industrial, and Protective coatings markets.
The Chemist will develop paint formulas based on new resins and existing resins and provide technical support to both our resin customers and the synthesis laboratory.
This support is in the field of paint technology and involves formulation, testing, evaluation and problem solving in coatings.
The emphasis is on Automotive markets (OEM / VR / Plastics), Rheology and New Technologies.
Conducts own bench work in the lab, formulates paint, spray coatings and tests coatings performance. Utilizes technical expertise to solve problems and interpret test data.
Maintains accurate, up-to-date documentation related to current and future experimental products and development projects so as to protect allnex Resins’ technical assets and maintain quality control (ISO) compliance.
Interfaces / Communicates with customers and Sales / Marketing personnel to support sales and marketing efforts.
Visits customers to promote resins, new technologies and provides technical guidance.
Communicates with customers to promote resins, new technologies and provides technical guidance. Visits customers when necessary.
Investigates customer complaints and problems. Provides technical service to the customers when required.
Participates in product training for customers and distributors.
Partners with project teams to facilitate development of paint formulations for new and existing resins.
Maintains a safe and regulatory-compliant laboratory work environment through proper maintenance and use of laboratory facilities and equipment and the wearing of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Confers with scientists and engineers regarding research, and prepares technical papers and reports.
Performs additional duties as required.
Required skills and experience
5-15 years of product development and formulation experience in automotive coatings, high end industrial coatings, and / or protective coatings is desired.
Demonstrated strength in formulation of solvent borne and high solids coatings will be a plus.
Experience in interacting with customers and solving customer problems.
Solid background in resin technologies related to a broad variety of coatings.
Good interpersonal and communications skills.
Excellent working knowledge of laboratory equipment and PC literacy.
Expected Travel 20-30% (mainly domestic with occasional international)
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Science. Specialization in Chemistry / Chemical Engineering / Polymers / Coatings is a plus
