Munich Re Beijing Branch, part of Munich Re, the world’s largest reinsurer, is seeking a qualified talent with strong skills in client interactions and Non-Life business development, as well as sound expertise in treaty underwriting of corporate lines business (in particular Property, Engineering, and emerging risks in PEN), for our team of SMI (small and midsize insurers) Business Development, Greater China.
Client Underwriting is one of the key pillars of Munich Re's Non-Life business strategy in SMI client segment of Greater China markets, which combines the best knowledge of both business development and underwriting into an efficient process of business generation.
The position is based in Beijing and reports to Head of Client UW, Mainland China.
Leading business origination and generation from SMI cedants and brokers for respective programs of corporate lines treaty business in Mainland China
Together with the Head of Client UW, ML China, leading the strategy development on NM portfolio steering for SMI clients in Mainland China;
actively contribute to annual planning and quarterly monitoring process
Preparing and conducting lead business origination and negotiations with SMI cedants and brokers for respective programs
Assuring the quality of technical risk reviews and acceptances, also for complex reinsurance products, including premium calculation and stipulation of reinsurance conditions in accordance with underwriting guidelines, internal rules, authorities, targets, and client strategies
Active interface with internal customized RI solutions team and innovation consulting team in servicing client accounts and tapping new business potential out of SMI clients;
providing technical services supporting claims management and technical accounting
Providing input to and cooperating with head office's Corporate Underwriting and divisional underwriting head on the development of class-specific rating tools and underwriting guidelines
Providing or sharing other Client UW teammates with technical guidance or proposals, designing the content of and conducting seminars / workshops for internal and external training courses and active participation in market events
Assuming special tasks, e.g. heading and supporting departmental and cross-functional working groups and projects (e.g.
Knowledge Management, Expert Group)
Actively looking into ways of enhancing existing work processes or procedures in business development out of SMI client segment
Excellent university degree in mathematics, statistics, actuarial, economics, scientific or law-related discipline, or with a recognized governing bodies of insurance qualifications
Minimum 5 years of treaty underwriting experience; advanced knowledge and expertise in reinsurance and / or primary insurance in Property, Engineering, PEN related emerging risk classes in the Mainland China markets;
well-developed analytical skills and good mathematical abilities
Excellent knowledge of reinsurance standard and non-standard pricing methods; creativity and experience in non-traditional product development and market regulatory changes would be an asset
High level of dedication and strong customer focus, affinity for developing solutions together with clients, and ability to deliver high-quality client services.
Experience in client managing function is strongly preferred.
Solid knowledge of Mainland China reinsurance market. The ability to make business decision based on both technical analysis and profound knowledge of local market risk landscape.
Fluent in Chinese and English; excellent written and verbal communication, time management and process improvement skills;
strong teamwork skills and a willingness to share knowledge
Ability to embrace and promote changes
